Upcoming Show

July 1, 2010: Canada Day Psycho Ceilidh!
McGillicuddys will be bringing our Celtic rockin' Canada Day party to the Canoe Brewpub July 1. The chaos begins at 8:OO PM, and carries on until the ugly lights come on around 12:30. The band will be taking a break so everyone can watch the fireworks. We want to make this more fun than should be had on a national holiday, so dress for the occasion, and expect a great show from us - you can't go wrong in red and a maple leaf (use your imagination). There is no cover charge so you have no excuse to miss this one!

Please note: The pub has advised us that they expect this event to fill up quickly, so you might want to arrive early.

March 17, 2010: Victoria's Only Celtic Punk St. Paddy's Day Party!
St. Patrick's Night, at Logan's Pub, Victoria BC.
It's that time again: to celebrate St Patrick's life and legacy through the ancient Irish tradition of drinking green beer, wearing silly hats, and getting completely off your head while dancing your ass off to some psycho ceilidh punk rock'n'roll courtesy of the McGillicuddys (or is that just a Victoria tradition?). With our very special guest, Deejay Cheeky O'Tiki spinin' the tunes between sets. Wednesday, March 17 at Logan's Irish Pub.

Upcoming Show

February 27, 2010: The Community Hall, Hornby Island, Celtic Dance Party
Party Down with The McGillicuddys!
"How are you with depression?" a local asked when he heard of my plans to spend my first winter on Hornby. The trick, others have shared, is to make your own fun and to vote yourself off the island once in awhile.

High on my agenda in the "make your own fun department" is: invite The McGilicuddys, a Celtic rock 'n' roll band, to play at The Community Hall. And since February can be a bit of a slog, I'm told, the timing is perfect for an injection of this band's brand of fun.

I've been following this Victoria-based high energy dance band since their inception in 1998 and not just because my niece is a member. They rock.

I last saw The McGillicuddys play at The Waverly this time last year; they packed them in and we danced non-stop all night. Now that's my definition of fun and a sure-fire way of keeping the winter doldrums at bay!

January 25, 2010: Canoe Brewpub Burns Night Party
Inspiring bold John Barleycorn, What dangers thou canst make us scorn! Wi' tippenny, we fear nae evil; Wi' usquebae, we'll face the devil!
Robert Burns

This January 25, McGillicuddys start a new tradition: our very own Burns Night Party at the Canoe Brewpub. There'll be no penny pinching allowed - no cover charge for this one - as McGillicuddys and our special guest, Pipe Major Steve Kelly, bring you a psycho ceilidh to remember. The fun begins with the toast to the haggis at 8:00, followed by drinking, dancing and... haggis eating. The pub requests that you kindly leave your cabers at home. kilts not mandatory, but encouraged.

Baby, Baby, Baby . . . On Thursday July 2 McGillicuddys will be playing at Logan's Pub with the legendary original UK punk rockers, the Vibrators. It should be a night of "Pure Mania," and definitely not a gig to be missed. Sherbrooke Quebec's Farler's Fury round out the bill. All we can say is YEAH YEAH YEAH!

May 2, 2009: Ukee Pub, Ucluelet BC
On Saturday May 2 we will be making our first trip out to Ucluelet, and will be appearing at the Ukee Pub at the Ucluelet Lodge. The Lodge is "in the very heart of downtown Ucluelet, [and is] one of the oldest buildings in town, rich in stories and heritage." June 12, 2009: Lucky Bar, Victoria BC

22 February 2009

McGillicuddys Throne Speech
We've been thinking (insert funny comment here) and decided it might be a good idea to pass along to our supporters the general status of all things McGillicuddy - recent happenings, future plans, links to YouTube videos, etc. To that end, please check this space for all the juicy details.

The big news right now is that we've been in the studio, starting last November, and working on recording a new album. We've got about eight songs more-or-less done, with a few more still to follow. We hope to have it completed and released this Spring or Summer, and plan to tour in support of the record in the Autumn. Once we're though the St, Paddy's shows, we'll be supplying more details, so you might want to bookmark this page for future reference (not so subtle hint!).

Cheers!

Upcoming Shows

March 17, 2009: The Only St. Paddy's Day Party That Matters!
St. Patrick's Night, at (where else?) Logan's Pub, Victoria BC.
Recipe for a Psycho Ceilidh rager:
Add a big shot of Celtic punk rock'n'roll from the McGillicuddys, mix with some sweet rockabilly from Hank Angel and his Island Devils, and mix it all together with DeeJays Cheeky O'Tiki and Suzie Spitfyre spinning some crazy drunken Irish music and greasy rock and roll. It starts when the doors open, and only stops when we've fallen and can't get up. Truly the only St. Paddy's day party that matters!

February 27, 2009: The Waverly Hotel, Cumberland
The Waverley Hotel "is one of the last great roots music rooms in Canada!" and we're excited to be packing up the van and heading up-Island for our first show at this legendary venue. No support bands for this one, so bring your dancing boots and get there early.
